Term for Azerbaijani-Japanese Economic Cooperation Set

Azerbaijan, Baku, 31 January / Trend corr. I.Khalilova / The Azerbaijani State agreed with Japan the date for holding the joint meeting of state commission on the economic cooperation scheduled for 25 and 26 February, Abid Sharifov, Vice Premier and co-chairman of the commission from Azerbaijan, stated. Yokota Akir, Vice President of the Japanese Itochy Corporation heads the commission from Japan.

Presently, the agenda of the meeting is being agreed.

The previous meeting was held in Baku in November. The agreement on expansion and strengthening of economic relations was achieved during the meeting. Azerbaijan is interested in the sphere and proposed Japan to participate in financing of railway and auto road, as well as settlement of water and sewerage system problems of the country and refine of solid wastes. Japan is to continue supporting of the energy sector.

Japan takes one of the leading positions in compliance with the volume of investments in Azerbaijan. The sum of investments will increase as the proposed projects need huge investments. About $300mln is needed for restoration of water and sewerage system, $200mln - road construction, $150-200mln - railroads and $100mln - Bakkodicioner.

In 2007, Japan invested $400mln to Azerbaijan.
