2008 VW Wolfsburg Edition Jetta 2.0T Coming To US

( WCF ) - Based on the success of last year's model, the Volkswagen Wolfsburg Edition Jetta will be back in American dealerships this year. The German automaker will produce 12,500 units of this special edition, replacing last year's 2.5 liter normally-aspirated model.

This model year, the Wolfsburg Jetta comes with a 2.0 liter turbocharged four banger, capable of cranking out 200 horsepower and 207 ft-lbs of torque. Wolfsburg Edition badging will adorn the car on each front quarter panel, along with special 17-inch alloy wheels. Leatherette interior is standard here, and exterior color options include Black, Platinum Gray, Reflex Silver, and Salsa Red.

Otherwise, the car is very much Jetta standard, with six airbags, a rock-steady front end, and impact resistant side door beams. Two more rear side airbags are optional. Anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-pressure distribution, hydraulic brake assist, the Electronic Stabilization Program, and an anti-slip system come standard.

Geez, who's really operating the car? The driver or a computer?

We're not sure if a sunroof and the cold weather package are standard, like they were last year. But with a 33% improvement in horsepower, a 22% increase in torque, and 1-inch bigger wheels than last year's model it is no surprise that the 2008 Wolfsburg Jetta costs $1500 more.

The 2008 Volkswagen Wolfsburg Edition Jetta 2.0T carries a pricetag of $20,875 with a six-speed manual, and $21,950 with the six-speed DSG automatic transmission.
