Azerbaijan, Ganja, 3 March /Тrend corr A. Ismayilova/ The ceremonial laying of the foundations of a steel complex and additional building of an aluminium plant took place in Ganja with the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev taking part.
Some $800mln will be put into the construction of the new steel complex. The investing period covers 2008-2011. Over 1,800 jobs will be created at the complex after it is put into operation. Its productive capacity will make up 1mln tons of steel a year.
Construction of the Det.Al Limited aluminium plant will be implemented by the Chinese company CNEC. The investment period covers 2008-2009, during which a total amount of $230mln is expected to be invested in the construction.
The new capacity will increase the power of the plant by 60,000 tons a year, as a result of which its total productive capacity will constitute 160,000 tons of aluminium a year. Introduction of up-to-day equipment will dramatically decrease the environmental impact (up to 98% of waste will not be expelled into the air), and will increase the power intensity of the plant - production of each 1,000 tons of aluminium will require 13,600 kilowatt-hour of electric power, which is by 6,000 kilowatt-hour less than the most power aluminium plant in the CIS.
The plant will create over 500 jobs.
