Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 April / Trend corr S. Babayeva/ By 1 April, the spring sowing area in Azerbaijan covers 104,200 hectares, which is 6,030 hectares more than in the same period of 2007, the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry reported on 10 April.
The grain sowing area covers 8,600 hectares (+ 171 hectares), maize - 1,500 hectares (+ 170 hectares), potato - 35,300 hectares (+ 1,500 hectares), vegetable - 20,100 hectares (+ 204 hectares), melons and gourds - 2,600 hectares (+ 243 hectares), clover -30,500 hectares (+ 779 hectares), white beet -1,900 hectares (+ 1,400 hectares).
According to the Ministry, it is too early to forecast the volume of the harvest because the sowing is still underway and depends on the weather.
