Azerbaijan, Baku, 21 April / corr. Trend S. Aliyev/ The reconstructed airports in Lankaran and Zagatala regions of Azerbaijan are expected to become operational within a period between June and October 2008, Sabir Ilyasov, the first deputy director general of AZAL State Concern said on 21 April.

Lankaran airport is located in south and Zagatala airport in north-west of Azerbaijan.

The reconstruction of Lankaran airport is valued at $51.1mln and Zagatala - $27.5mln. AZAL will carry out flights from Baku to these two directions, after the reconstruction is complete.

The flights will be carried out with the help of planes purchased from French ATR. At present, Azerbaijan has two planes from this company and will purchase 4 more planes until August.

These two earlier purchased planes are carrying out flights both within the country (Baku-Nakhchivan and Baku-Ganja) and outside the boundaries of country (Baku-Tbilisi, Baku-Tehran, Baku-Minvodi and Baku-Aktau).

The airports are reconstructed with both the government and Concern's resources (purchase and installation of equipment). In 2008, the state budget allocated $17.8mln for the reconstruction of Lankaran airport and $10.4mln - for the reconstruction of Zagatala airport. Lankaran airport is expected to carry out international flights as well in the future.

AZAL has placed order for two ATR-42-500S planes and four ATR-72-500S planes in the French aircraft building company producing ATR aircrafts. The total volume of the contract is about $97.2mln.
