GUAM Members’ Bank Organizations to Discuss Promotion of Economic Processes

Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 April / Trend corr I. Khalilova/ Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry with the support of the Azerbaijan Bank Association is organizing conference 'GUAM Development Strategy' in Baku, Farhad Aliyev, Chief Executive of Azerbaijan Bank Association, reported on 28 April.

According to Aliyev, the agenda of the conference is being currently discussed, but according to the outline data, the event will discuss integration of GUAM and cooperation amongst bank associations for promotion of economic processes.

Four post-Soviet republics; Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format in 1997 during a summit of presidents of European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization but left four years later. In 2006, at the first summit of the organization in Kiev a decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization with a new name; Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM.
