Azerbaijan, Baku, 2 May / corr. Trend E. Ismayilov/ The employees of the locomotive depot of the State Railway of Azerbaijan in Bilajari settlement went on a hunger strike with a demand of double pay on 2 May, one of the strikers said to Trend on 2 May.
Since the end of 2007 until April, employees of the depot were paid compensation worth AZN30. The employees on holiday or who got sick were not paid any compensation.
"Now they say that we have been getting wages with a raise of AZN28.6 and every worker in the depot has got an equal pay raise regardless of their positions," said one of the strikers.
The press service of the State Railway reported that wages of all the employees has been increased by AZN28.6 from 1 April 2008 including the strikers as well. The average salary in the State Railway makes up AZN302 compared to previous AZN274.
"The strike by the locomotive depot employees in Bilajari did not affect the work of Railways or causes any inconvenience to the passengers," the State Railway of Azerbaijan said
In February, the employees of the depot struck with a demand of pay raise. They ceased their strike after a meeting with the management.
