Azerbaijani State Railway to Purchase 50 Locomotives in Korea
Azerbaijan, Baku, 21 May / Trend corr S. Aliyev/ Azerbaijan State Railway intends to purchase 50 new locomotives in Korea, chief engineer of the State Railway Gurban Nazirov said to journalists at the opening of international transport exhibition in Baku on 21 May. The exhibition was organized by ITECA.
According to Nazirov, one locomotive costs some $5-6mln. They will be purchased within the framework of the State Program on Development of Railways intended for 2008-12.
New locomotives will be operated by alternating current (presently they are operated by direct current). Transition to alternating current will take place within the framework of the project being implemented by the State Railway jointly with World Bank. Tender has been announced to select a consultant for the projects.
