The US giant aircraft builder Boeing plans to expand with acquisitions as opportunities present themselves, said Boeing head Jim McNerny at an investors conference Wednesday in Seattle, dpa reported.

McNerny did not name any companies that are in its sights.

Boeing used the occasion to celebrate the launch of its new 777 freight craft, which Boeing claims is the best performing two-engine freight plane in the world with a reach of 9,000 kilometres fully loaded.

Boeing has 78 confirmed orders from 11 customers for the 777. After flight tests starting in June, first deliveries will go to Air France in the fourth quarter.

McNerny said Boeing has a record number of orders for aircraft, which would form a 175-kilometre-long queue if lined up one after another.
