Azerbaijani Government Develops State Food Security Program: Premier

Azerbaijan, Baku, 3 June/ corr. Trend I. Khalilova/ The Azerbaijani government is developing a state food security program. This program will be developed in three months at the presidential instruction of 1 May 2008, Premier Artur Rasizade said on 3 June.

"The program includes a set of appropriate measures in this regard, starting from laying electricity lines up to the development of the olive forests," head of the government said.

The Premier also touched upon the harvest of grain-crops. According to Premier, the harvest of grain-crops will exceed the figures of 2007. In 2008, Azerbaijan will not face the grain problems, he said.

According to Premier, the government is also studying the proposal of the Union of Poultry Farms to exempt birdseed import from VAT, but it will depend on the productivity (volume of birdseed production) in the internal market.

The state bodies engaged in the food security also take part in development of the program. The world practice is also being used while developing this program.
