Azerbaijan’s Public Budget Surplus Reaches 11.6% of GDP

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 June /corr. Trend I.Khalilova / From January to April 2008, the Public budget income comprised AZN 3427.5mln, or 30.7% of GDP. It rose by 83.4% from last year, a Government source stated on 11 June.

The Ministry of Taxes remitted 67.9% of all income, or 2325.8mln manats to the public budget, implementing the forecast at 128.5%. The tax transfers to the Public budget increased by 58.4%.

The State Customs Committee remitted 375.3mln manats (with a special weight of 10.9%) in taxes and duties to the public budget, fulfilling the forecast by 100.3%. The customs transfers increased by 67.4% as compared to the same period of the last year.

Public budget expenses rose 63.2% and made up AZN 2131.2mln (19.1% of the GDP).

The public budget expenses for social security and provision of people comprised 287.4mln manats (an increase of 33.7%). 236.6mln manats (35.3%) were spent on education, 72.3mln (42.3%) - health, 832.7mln mantas(2.6 times) - industry, construction, AZN 22.4mln (2.3 times) - transport and communications, 33.8 manats (48.2%) - culture, art, 27.7mln manats (78.7%) - housing and communal services, 43.8mln (21.3%) - agriculture, forestry, fishing and environmental protection, 111.9mln (19.4%) - maintenance of prosecutor bodies, security and law-enforcement and court bodies.

During this period, AZN 659mln was spent on the salaries, 30.9% of all budget expenses.

The surpluses of the budget in January to April totaled AZN 1296.3mln (11.6% of GDP).     

The official exchange rate on 11 June is 0.8185 AZN/USD.
