Reconstruction of First Stage of Baku-Russian Border Concrete Road to Complete in October

E.Ismayilov / The first stage of construction of the Baku- Russian border road is expected to be completed in October 2008, the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry, said. Within the framework of the first stage a new concrete road divided into three lots is being constructed. The work in the first plot of the road from Baku to Sumgayit, is expected to be completed within a month. The work in the second plot will be continued from Sumgayit to Siyazan, as well as the third -from Siyazan to Gandob.

The cost of the first stage of construction of the road totals $400mln. A total cost of the project is about $800mln.

Construction of the first stage of the concrete road is being implemented by the Azerbaijani construction company Akkord. The Czech Eximbank and European Bank of Reconstruction and Development allocated funds to reconstruct the road.

Four concrete plants with capacity of 120cu m of concrete per hour were constructed along the constructed road to provide with the necessary concrete.

Akkord uses the modern international standards in most of its projects. Akkord is a member of the International Project Managing Association with other 42 other countries.

At present, the negotiations are being held to finance the part of the road from Ganja to the Russian border. This issue has already been resolved, the Ministry said.
