Increase in Cost of Azerbaijani State Railway Development Program
Azerbaijan, Baku, 30 July / Trend corr. E.Ismayilov / The cost of the Azerbaijani State Railway Development Program for 2008 -2011 has increased from AZN 1.25bln to AZN2bln taking into consideration the growing inflation rate and use of modern technologies, Musa Panahov, Azerbaijani Deputy Transport Minister, said.
"The cost of the project will touch AZN 2bln taking into consideration the growing inflation rate and use of modern technologies in this direction," Panahov said.
The project is expected to be launched in 2009 and to complete within four years. The freight flow will reach 20 or 25mln tons per year after implementation of the project. The Azerbaijani railway system is expected to be brought to meet international standards.
The program has already been developed and is expected to be approved by the President. Program's key direction is to hold corporative reforms in the Azerbaijani railway system, as well as to upgrade management system, restore infrastructure, upgrade normative and legal basis and to extend international relations.
Project is directed to implement infrastructural projects. These works will enable to increase the freight flow, create conditions to transport passengers, increase transport speed, provide security and timely delivery of freights. The works will also provide freight flow and timely transportation in the North-South and East-West directions, Panahov said.
