Baku’s New General Layout Worked Out on Base of European Experience: Town-Planning Committee

Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 October/ Trend , U. Ismayilova/ "State Committee of Azerbaijan for Town Planning and Architecture has begun working out new general layout of Baku," Abbas Alasgarov, head of committee said in his interview with newspaper Khalg (Nation). 

"New general layout is being worked out on the base of documents on town planning accepted in European countries," he said.

General layout on the developed system of water supply of Baku and Absheron peninsula is expected to be worked out under World Bank project on water supply of cities. The Committee has invited Austrian specialists in the sphere of town planning, he said.

In June 2007, WB approved a project to improve water supply and sewerage system in small towns worth $230mln. The project covers 22 regions of Azerbaijan. The project is expected to be realized by 2012.

"State Committee of Azerbaijan for Town Planning and Architecture had already worked out general layout of Gakh, Gobustan and Naftalan cities," Alasgarov said.

Committee is also working on regulatory documents on fundamentals of town planning to submit it to construction companies in the designing stage.

"All these measures aim at putting a stop to construction chaos and "intermittent building", he said.
