Azerbaijani Transport Ministry to Continue Building of Highway to Border with Russia
Azerbaijan, Baku, 8 October / corr. Trend E.Ismayilov / The Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport made a decision to continue building of concrete highway from Baku to the border with Russia," Musa Panahov, Azerbaijani deputy transport minister said.
A new concrete section of the Baku-Guba-Russia's border highway (16-134 km) will complete in November. The ministry made a decision to continue building of concrete road after 134th kilometer.
More than 100 km of road have been covered with concrete and concreting in the Baku-Sumgait section of the new concrete road is complete within the frames of the project.
The project of building of concrete section of the Baku-Guba-Russia's border is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The 208km-long highway will be shortened to 198 km after reconstruction.
Primary cost of the project made up $400mln, but its cost increased to $800 mln following a decision on building of concrete road.
21 bridges and 10 junctions will be build over the road section under construction. The thickness of the concrete cover is 26 cm due to big volume of cargo transportation in this direction.
