Trichet has welcomed decisions made by the countries that use the euro at a summit in Paris to try to encourage lending and ease the credit crunch.
Trichet said Sunday that "the force of unity that we showed today is a fundamental element of confidence." But he added, "There are still many things to do."
Trichet joined the leaders of the 15 euro-zone nations at Sunday's summit. The countries agreed to guarantee bank refinancing.
