London stock market opens higher

The market edged ahead in early trade on Tuesday, building on Monday's rally which saw the FTSE 100 add more than 5 percent, reported Xinhua.

By 0820 BST the FTSE 100 index was up 22.7 points, or 0.5 percent, at 4,305.37.

Energy and mining firms led the index higher, with Eurasian Natural Resources up 8.1 percent, and both Tullow Oil and Xstrata up by 5.7 percent.

Outside the top 100 firms, shares in Dehenhams rose 6 percent despite reporting a 16 percent fall in annual profits and halving its annual dividend.
