Hong Kong shares surge by more than 4 per cent in early trading

Hong Kong shares surged by more than 4 per cent in early trading Monday after one of the most turbulent weeks in the Hang Seng Index's history last week, dpa reported.

The blue-chip index was up by 4.39 per cent in the first half hour of trading Monday at 14,581 points, an increase of 612.94 points on Friday's close.

At the end of last week, the index fell 2.52 per cent after a week which saw two double-digit percentage increases as well as the biggest one day decline for 11 years.
