Major stock indicies around Asia and the Pacific rose in early trading Monday - except in Japan.
Just before noon, the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was up 4.9 percent while the Taiwan Weighted had gained 1.9 percent. The KOSPI in South Korea was up 2.9 percent. And the All Ordinaries index in Australia had gained 2.9 percent, as well, CNN reported.
In Japan, however, the Nikkei was down 5 percent just after noon.
