Azerbaijan, Baku, 13 November / Trend /"The application of "single window" principle during inspection of commodities and vehicles at check points in the state border of Azerbaijan from 1 January 2009 will greatly enhance the attractiveness of the transport corridor through the territory of the country," Akif Mustafayev, TRACECA's national secretary from Azerbaijan, said.

Currently, about 20-30 automobiles with Carnet-TIR cards pass the territory of Azerbaijan per day. The number of automobiles may increase after the procedure at check points will be simplified. The project component is to complete the reconstruction and construction of the rest plots of the 503km of the East-West highway.

The application of the "single window" principle will increase the efficiency of cargo transport and passenger transport by railway, a source from the Azerbaijan State Railway reported. The implementation of the project will shorten the term for cargo and passenger trains to stand at state border check points. At present, almost 35 trains depart to international routes daily.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev issued a decree on introduction of a 'single window' principle since 1 January 2009 during inspection of commodities and vehicles at state border check-points. The object of the decree is to enlarge the carrying capacity in state borders, to remove artificial obstacles during the check of commodities and vehicles and import and export operations in accordance with up-to-date requirements.

The duties of the state agency on the 'single window' principle during inspection of commodities and vehicles at the state border check points is charged to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.
