GTZ and Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan Signs Memorandum of Understanding

Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 November /corr. Trend N.Ismaylova / Ismaylova A memorandum of understanding was signed between German Technical Cooperation Society (GTZ) and Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, a source at GTZ Baku office said.  

The memorandum determines basic directions of activity and obligations of the sides in the realization of the projects, reflected in the document. This memorandum will also contribute to further strengthening of the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Germany.

"It is unquestionable that our co-operation will contribute to ensure protection of the local population in the regions, which are under the direct effect of frequent natural calamities," said the consultant on the project, Hennick Hillmer.

For the implementation of the pilot project, Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan stopped its selection in the regions Balakani, Sheki and Gabala and on the southern slope of the large Caucasus. The project is planned to be implemented during 2008-2009.


The measures outlined by project, are directed towards creation and development of the potential of the local population to ensure timely notification, readiness and effective reaction to the emeregency situations caused by the natural calamities. The project will create a possibility for the interested sides to use the advantages of the systems of early notification.

The work on the project will be carried out with the use of advanced technologies with the direct participation of the local population. There will be carried out analysis and inventory of the emeregncy situation risks existing in the region.

The basis of co-operation between GTZ and Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan was laid in 2007.
