Azerbaijan, Baku, 15 November / Trend , corr. S.Babayeva / In Azerbaijan, the number of physicians meet European standards, although their number is more than the number of beds in hospitals," the deputy head of the Medical Care Department attached to the Health Ministry Adil Karimov said.

Only 35-40 per cent of beds are used. Over the years, there built a lot of hospitals which are complicated to contain from an economic point of view. The result is the founds from public budget are used aimless and slow the development of modern stationary medical institutions

The problem, according to Karimov, will be resolved within the framework of the cooperation with the World Bank project to reform the health sector. Thus, according to the recommendations of international experts a new limit on the number was prepared that defines the provision of hospital beds and medical personnel

Presently, 65 per cent out of the total sum of founds allocated to the heath sphere fel on the stationary medical aid, while the sum in Europe touches only 30-35 per cent.

Physicians of primary health care in Azerbaijan make up 20-25 percent of the total number of physicians, while in developed countries this figure is half that.
