Designing of Azerbaijan’s large transport project over
Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 8 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/ South Korean consortium of SK C&C completed the designing of the Intelligent Transportation System in Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Transport said on Jan. 8.
"Design work has been already completed. The documents are being translated into the Azerbaijani language," said the office.
The Ministry said that the cost of the project has not yet been agreed upon. "The preliminary cost of this project is 76 million dollars. And without taxes the sum totals 62-63 million dollars," Deputy Minister of Transport Musa Panahov said earlier.
Construction of the Intelligent Transportation System Centre will begin in Baku in March, said the ministry.
The place for the Centre has been selected.
It will be located on the Heydar Aliyev Avenue, in the area of former Keshla machine-building
plant. Primary design of the building is ready. It will include all up-to-date equipment
required for the project, Panahov said earlier.
The project will enable passengers to most efficiently spend their time and reduce the loss of time in the transport, will arrange the traffic and relieve tension in the transport sector.
The agreement signed by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport provides for a Control Centre in Baku, like the Urban Transport Centre in Seoul.
SK C&C has already registered its office in Azerbaijan. At the first stage, the Centre will focus on Baku and later on whole Absheron peninsular. The periphery of the Centre will cover Khirdalan, Sumgayit and Ganja through the fibre-optic communication system. They system will also cover suburban and intercity transportations. And that will enable a switch to the electronic ticket system.
A number of new traffic lights and bus stops will be put into operation once this system is introduced. The number of traffic lights and bus stops has been cut down as a result of construction of the bridges and pedestrian crossings in Baku. The establishment of the system will enable to send immediate information to the central control point about the movement of vehicles, speed, bus-stops, traffic accidents and traffic jams.
The Intelligent Transportation System is expected to be created within 3.5 years at two stages.
