Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 12 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

The Baku metro are designing new subway stations, including Javadkhan (passage from Memar Ajami), Avtovogzal and Mikayil Mushfig, as well as is conducting geological work necessary for it, a source at the metro said on Jan. 12.

"At present the metro is independently projecting new stations. The areas allotted for stations are being enclosed," the source said. Geological work is being conducted on them, as well as underground communications (water, sewage and connection) are being studied.

Necessary funds for construction of new stations have been envisaged, but there is not any decree to allocate them. The source did not divulge amount of the planned investment.

Javadkhan - Avtovagzal (near to new bus terminal) is the first priority line. The relevant executive bodies passed a decision to allot necessary areas of these stations.

The second priority line is operating the second way from Icharishahar station to Badamdar settlement in Baku. It is planned to construct three subway stations in this direction. Work is scheduled to begin only in 2011-2012, earlier the source said.

A primary project of Mikayil Mushfig station was developed in 1990s (earlier it was named as Inglab). It is planned location of stations will be moved by 400m-500m, the source said earlier. A new subway station will be located in the seventh micro district.

The Baku metro functions since 1967 (from Icheri Sheher station to Nariman Narimanov station with three intermediate stations). Seven stations of the Baku metro, including Icheri Sheher, Sahil, 28 May, Jafar Jabbarli, Khatai, Nizami and Elmler Akademiyasi, are deep-laid stations with Bakmil being surface and the rest -shallow-laid (altogether 21 stations).
