Azerbaijan Economic Development Ministry takes measures to improve investment climate

Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev instructed the relevant departments of the ministry to develop an action plan for 2009, the ministry said in a message on Jan. 21.
The action plan will address goals set by the Cabinet of Ministers at a meeting on socio-economic development in Azerbaijan in 2008.
The meeting was held on Jan. 16 and headed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. At the meeting, Mustafayev noted the importance of strengthening state control over the consumer market, preventing artificial price increases, intensifying anti-monopoly activities, developing free competition and defining public-investment priorities. Mustafayev also spoke about the importance of increasing foreign investments, upping state support for firms producing exportable goods, ensuring food security and providing agricultural subsidies.
