Soil unsuitable for farming to be reserved for future in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.6 / Trend corr N. Kirtzkhalia / Soil unsuitable for farming in Azerbaijan will be prepared for exploitation, Azerbaijani State Committee on Land and Cartography Chairman Garib Mammadov said on Feb.6.

"The committee is currently studying all problem soil in the country and viewing proposals for their treatment," Mammadov said.

The chairman said about 3.7 million hectares of land are partially unsuitable for exploitation. There is no entirely unsuitable land in Azerbaijan.  

"These lands are currently reserved for future agricultural exploitation. Gradually unsuitable soil will be treated are commissioned as we have limited natural resources," Mammadov said.

Salinization and oil pollution are problems of soil in Azerbaijan.

Mammadov said up to 30,000 hectares of land are oil polluted in Absheron peninsula.
