In 2008, Kazakhstan was the world's second-largest uranium producer, Kazatomprom President Mukhtar Jakishev said on Feb. 26.
"In 2008, Kazakhstan was ranked the world's second-largest uranium producer. This year we expect to top the rating," Jakishev said at a briefing after a meeting with President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
Jakishev informed Nazarbayev about progress establishing a joint uranium-enrichment venture with Russia, a vertical-integrated nuclear fuel production company, a conversion plant, a fuel assembly plant and a nuclear power station in Aktau.
