Crocodiles breed in Georgia to sell meat in Europe

Georgians decided to breed crocodiles. The Georgian-German enterprise Zhakar intends to sell meat and skin of reptiles on the European market.

The first such farm was opened in Zugdidi, region with warm climate in the west of Georgia. The first investment to a new enterprise totals €12,000. Founders of the crocodile farm hope for profit. According to the information, 1 kilogram of crocodile meat costs €40 but skin - €5,000 in Europe.

Roughly 50 crocodiles have been placed in Zugdidi farm. But it is necessary to reach the number of reptiles to 500 for profitability of production.

Earlier there were farms for ostrich in Georgia. Their meat had great demand in Tbilisi restaurants.
