Azerbaijan, Baku, April 8 / Trend , I.Khalilova/

At present it is not necessary to pursue a protectionist policy to support the national production in Azerbaijan under conditions of the global finance-economic crisis, State Customs Committee Financo-Tariff and Currency Regulation Department Chief Mirgasim Vahabov said.

"There are enough normative-legal acts at the moment to provide development of interior production and generally, economic development in Azerbaijan," Vahabov said.

Azerbaijan does not want to take this step, because this policy, in one hand, assists in developing the national production and protecting domestic production and on the other hand, it can lead to stagnation in economy, strengthening monopolism and reducing competitiveness of national goods.

A special statement on applying a protectionist policy in crisis was made at the final communiqué of the G20 summit.

The G20 statement contradicts small countries' interests, including Azerbaijan, Parliamentary Permanent Commission on Economic Policy Chairman Ziyad Samadzade said.

"Besides this, the crisis situation demonstrated that the U.S. maintains its leadership," Samadzade said. "It is confirmed by volumes of funds allocated by the government to support economy, if the United States directs $2.5 trillion, then the developed countries - $100 billion."

At present the most protectionist country in the world is the United States which takes such steps to support its economy.

"I believe it is necessary to strengthen the national economy, create conditions for own producers, but at present a system approach is needed under the crisis conditions," the member of the parliament said.
