Azersun Holding, Azerbaijan's largest food producer, is taking measures to develop tea growing in the country, Public Relations and Social Projects Department Head Afig Safarov said at a press conference.

"The company has increased value of tea leaves that it buys from farmers up to 1 manat per kilogram for this purpose," Safarov said.

He said increasing price on the tea leaves will not lead to rise in prices on tea sold by Azersun Holding. This decision was adopted to develop tea growing.

Safarov said profitability of tea growing from every hectare totals 1,300 manat.

"Sown area of Azersun Holding tea plantations is 1,000 hectares. Harvest is expected to total 35 centners," Safarov said.

Founded in 1991 in Azerbaijan, Azersun Holding is a largest company engaged in food production, trade and agriculture.

On June 3, the official exchange rate is 0. 8034 manat to $1.
