The reforms undertaken in almost all spheres of the Azerbaijani economy and economic growth rates over the past three years have turned Azerbaijan into one of the rapidly developing countries in the world,  Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Azerbaijan Ilgar Rahimov said at seminar on European Social Charter.

"Protecting and strengthening socio-economic rights are an important component of human rights as well as the main indicator resulting in the development of our country," Rahimov said.

He said Azerbaijan rose from 97th place to 33rd for undertaking reforms to improve business climate among 181 countries around the world last year.

Rahimov said the main purpose of the seminar is not only to discuss non-adopted articles of the European Social Charter by Azerbaijan but also studying opportunities for their ratification in future as a result of socio-economic development over the past five years.

Azerbaijan ratified 18 articles of the Revised European Social Charter in January, 2004.

Rahimov said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with the Council of Europe in terms of the continuation of reforms meeting European standards in the areas of socio-economic rights.
