A shipbuilding plant may be constructed in Baku in 2010, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in his final speech at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the results of the socio-economic development in the first half of 2009. The head of state presided over the meeting.

"We should make our best to begin constructing a shipbuilding plant in 2010 and launch it in a short period of time," the president said.

Ilham Aliyev said it must be a plant which will produce different types of ships, including military ones.

Foreign investors have been selected to implement the project. Besides, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and Azerbaijan State Investment Company will participate in the project.

The Azerbaijani president said numerous ships, including cargo ships and tankers, will be bought for the Azerbaijan State Caspian Sea Shipping and SOCAR's Sea Fleet. In this regard, the negotiations have been held with foreign companies to construct a new modern shipbuilding plant in Azerbaijan for a long time.
