Azerbaijan continues to issue grants to farmers

The Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry has not yet completed the distribution of grants allocated by the 2009 public budget among the farmers, Deputy Agriculture Minister Ilham Guliyev, said on Oct. 2.

"Majority of the grants have been allocated, except in some regions," Guliyev said.

In 2009, Azerbaijan plans to provide farmers grants worth 59 million manat (40 manat on average per hectare of cropland) for 1,493 hectares in 59 regions.

Grants are paid by plastic cards. Payment of grants sent on fuel and lubricants. As of mid-August, a total of 25 million manat was remitted to the accounts of 166,000 farmers in 28 regions.

In 2007, farmers received subsidies for 1,054,000 hectares and in 2008 - over 1,344,000 hectares.
