Advanced sewage treatment plant inaugurated

The first unit of a large wastewater treatment plant, which is the most advanced unit in the Middle East, was inaugurated by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in southern Tehran on Thursday.

IRNA news agency reported that by using this facility an important step was taken in completing the facilities needed for the collection and purification of wastewater in Tehran.

Up to now, $750 million has been used for Tehran wastewater collection and treatment project, of which $140 million has been financed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The implementation of the first phase of the project started in 2003.

The treatment facility will comprise six units. Three units will be commissioned in six months and the remaining two units will come on stream within the next twenty months.
