Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct. 13 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/
The Azerbaijan Railways Joint Stock Company (JSC) has submitted proposals to the Tariff Council to increase prices for passenger traffic, the head of JSC, Arif Asgarov said on Oct. 13.
"A letter with the proposals has already been submitted to the Tariff Council," said Asgarov.
He said an average price of a ticket is 3.5 manat ($4.3) at the moment.
"If one compares these prices with prices for other modes of transport, carrying passengers, this figure is several times lower," said the head of the company.
The economy of passenger transport has problems due to low prices for tickets, he said. "We need to ensure the continued safety and security of passenger conveyance," said Asgarov.
In January-September, Azerbaijani Railways transported more than 15 million tons of cargo and more than 4 million passengers.
