Industrial production ups 5 percent in Azerbaijan

In January - September 2009 the amount of industrial production in Azerbaijan composed 15, 624.9 million manat, which is 5 percent more than the same period of 2008, State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan reported.

The amount of production in the extractive industry were 7.8 percent and amounted to 11, 651.1 million manat (74.6 percent of the gross industrial production), but the growth rate in the processing industry declined 7 percent and was 3, 117.9 million manat (19.9 percent), and in power engineering, gas and water sectors - 855.9 million manat with a decrease of 8.8 percent.

The growth in the oil production was 8.5 percent with a decrease of 0.6 percent in gas production and 9.1 percent reduction was recorded in oil refining.

During the report period, production of transport equipment sector increased by 9.7 percent in pulp and paper production - by 2.3 times, the production of food products, including alcohol and tobacco remained at the same level.

The specific weight of the industrial production and services in the private sector made up 79.6 percent (12 443.2 million manat). Growth in the private sector was 8.9 percent, but 7.9 percent reduction was recorded in the public sector.

On Oct. 19, the official exchange rate is 0.803 manat to $1.
