World Bank to assess tender proposals on development of Baku's general plan

State Committee for Architecture and Town Planning of Azerbaijan presented to World Bank the tender proposals on devising the regional development plan of Great Baku, the head of the information and international relations department of the State Committee, Jahangir Gojayev, said on Oct. 20.
"The results of the tender may be announced in the next 10 days, after experts of the WB consider the proposals and return them to the State Committee," said Gojayev.
According to him, the World Bank specialists mainly estimate the financial proposals of the tender participants.
For the tender participation, applications were received from 34 companies from 21 countries, of which six groups of companies were allowed to attend tender:
AS&P Albert Speer & Partners GmbH (Germany);
Moshe Zur Architects Town Planners Ltd., Marmanet organization & Projects, Management International Ltd.,Geoda Geographical Data, Landed Property, Mapping and Surveying Ltd. (Израиль);
EDAW, AECOM (U.S.);
HOK (Hellmuth, Obata and Kassabaum) Inc., Development Planning Unit, (Англия), Shaw Consultants International (США), Scott Wilson (Az. Office) (England);
GHK Consulting (England), International Land System Inc.(U.S.), Synergetics Ltd. (Azerbaijan);
Urban Solutions (Netherlands), Hansen Partnership (Australia), Baku State Project Institute (Azerbaijan).
Under the terms of the tender, the general plan will be developed within two years.
The plan was called Great Baku, as the old general plan of the city covered the graphic principles and the concept of 22,000 hectares of the territory of the capital, although the actual territory of Baku is more than 219,000 hectares. The old general plan was approved in 1987.
