The WHO assesses the measures undertaken by the Azerbaijani government to prevent the spread of the swine flu as appropriate, WHO Program Coordinator on Azerbaijan Elkhan Gasimov said.

However, cases of the swine flu might spread in Azerbaijan as in any other country sharing relations with countries at risk, Gasimov said. He added that the WHO believes that Azerbaijan is taking all the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

Yesterday, an Azerbaijani citizen was diagnosed with the AH1N1 virus. The individual resides temporarily in Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk region and returned by rail to Kurdamir Oct. 26.

The patient is being treated. Preventive measures are also being taken with individuals who were in contact with the patient.

The Azerbaijani Lung Diseases Research Institute will announce today the results of an analysis taken from a husband and daughter infected with the swine flu, Azerbaijani Republican Anti-Plague Station Deputy Director Shair Gurbanov said.

Two cases of the swine flu were reported in July in individuals arriving to Azerbaijan from France and England. Both fully recovered.
