Foreign investors maintain interest in Azerbaijan's banking sector: Central Bank

Azerbaijan, Baku, November 23 / Trend , N.Ismayilova / Foreign investors remain interested to enter the banking sector of Azerbaijan, said the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) Alim Guliyev.

"The central bank continues to receive proposals from foreign investors both to open private banks in Azerbaijan and to purchase participation share in the capital of local commercial banks," Guliyev said.

According to him, the interest in the banking sector is displayed both by investors from the CIS countries and certain foreign countries.

Today there are 23 banks with foreign capital in Azerbaijan. In seven of them the share of foreign capital is formed in the range from 50 to 100 percent, in 14 banks - up to 50 percent, and two local branches of foreign banks operate.

The number of structures of banks operating abroad is nine, including six representations, two subsidiaries and one branch. Four representative offices of foreign banks also operate in Azerbaijan.
