A working group on tariffs under the TRACECA (Europe-Caucasus-Asia) transport corridor will set up its activities next year, TRACECA Nationla Secretary from Azerbaijan Akif Mustafayev said on today.

"We expect the working group on tariffs to commission its activities next year," Mustafayev said.

Mustafayev said next year the working will more probably launch considering tariffs and designing recommendations to be sent to all countries. "The permanent secretariat or national secretariat cannot take a decision to change tariffs. Even in Azerbaijan tariffs are determined by the Tariff Council. Proposals are sent to ministries through the secretariat and further it's up to each country to make a decision," Mustafayev added.

Tariff policy was also discussed at the TRACECA within the second coordinating council of national secretaries, which began in Baku on Dec. 1. Attending the meeting are TRACECA secretary general and a representative from the European Commission.

The workshop is focused on transport routes in the Black Sea and Caspian Seas, problems in tariff issues, border passage and ways to solve them, as well as priority projects for subsequent years. Beginning from 2011 it is planned to finance two huge projects for all TRACECA member-states instead of five-six comparatively small projects, which are implemented every year at European Commission's funds. These two projects will cover entire specter of issues under the corridor.

On Dec. 3 the gathering will mull security and reliability of land transport.

Participants in the event are all TRACECA member-states, including Iran. Armenia does not participate in the gathering. Iran joined TRACECA this year. Representatives from several state agencies represent Azerbaijan in the event, Mustafayev added.
