Bank of England leaves interest rates unchanged

The Bank of England Thursday left its key interest rate unchanged at an all-time low of 0.5 per cent, DPA reported.

The bank's Monetary Policy Committee also decided not to increase the current level of the quantitative easing (QE) scheme to boost the money supply, which will remain at 200 billion pounds (326 billion dollars).

The bank's caution comes amid optimism that the economy will pull out of recession before the end of this year, a prediction underlined by the government this week.

Interest rates have been at an historic low since March 2009.
