Moneyval decides to eliminate special monitoring regime for Azerbaijan

On Dec. 11, within 31st Plenary Meeting of the Council of Europe expert group on money-laundering Moneyval decided to eliminate the special regime of monitoring, applied by Moneyval with regards to Azerbaijan since 2006, and shift to the normal assessment procedure, which takes place in relation to other countries, the head of the interdepartmental working group on combating money-laundering, the chairman of the State Securities Committee of Azerbaijan Rufat Aslanli said in Strasburg in an exclusive interview with Trend on Dec. 11.

"Moneyval made a statement in this regard," said Aslanli. Such a decision was made due to Azerbaijan's achievements in creating and implementing legislation in the field of combating the legalization of criminally obtained funds and property and terrorist financing, as well as due to the establishment of the Financial Monitoring Service at the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.

"Moneyval appreciates and welcomes Azerbaijan's positive achievements in the field of combating money-laundering and the financing of terrorism, said Aslanli. - And as a result of this, at its meeting on Dec. 11, the organization of the Council of Europe decided to suspend the special monitoring regime.

Thus, Moneyval once again confirmed the high level of constructive cooperation with Azerbaijan, he said.
