Doctor of Economics Oktay Akhverdiyev said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decree to annul the public's gas debt is important for the country.
"This decree has great significance for the population. These debts were accumulated over 10 years and as a result counters have ;not yet been installed," he said.
Aliyev decided to annul the population's gas debt worth 327 million manat to Azerigas as of Oct. 1, 2009 to strengthen social protection and regulate natural gas consumption costs.
The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic will receive compensation equal to the debts written off from the 2009 state budget.
