Iran plans to increase steel production in the country from current 11 million tons
to 17.1 million tons a year, Iranian IRIBnews quoted Iranian Ministry of Industry and Mines Organization for Reconstruction and Development Board Chairman Ali Heratinik as saying.

Heratinik said production of 15.8 million tons of steel will fall to state sector and the other part on private enterprises.

Heratinik was participating in the opening ceremony of the plant for sheet steel production for cars in the Shahkurd city.

"The plant will produce 400,000 ton sheet steel a year for passenger cars and trucks," Heratinik underscored.

Demand for sheet steel of Iranian automobile plants will be met thoroughly. It will lead to renunciation of import of this product with the launch of the new plant, he added.
