Azerbaijani banks increase deposit base by 1.1 percent

In November 2009, the deposit base of Azerbaijani banks increased by 1.1 percent, since the beginning of the year decreased by 9.5 percent and in annual calculation by 5.2 percent, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) reported.

According to the CBA, as of Dec.1, 2009, the aggregate amount of bank deposits and deposits by legal entities and individuals hit 4.308.2 million manat compared to 4.261.5 million manat as of Nov. 1, 4760.7 million manat as of Jan.1, 2009 and 4.544 million manat as of Dec.1, 2008. Of this amount, 1.628.1 million manat fell to manat and 2.680.1 million manat to the currency.

In November the deposits by individuals increased by 5.9 percent, and the deposits by legal entities by 3.7 percent. In January-November, deposits by individual customers increased by 18.2 percent, but the corporate deposits declined by 28 percent.

As of Dec.1, 2009 the deposits of individuals in local banks made up 2.251.7 million manat compared to 2.125.7 million manat as of Nov.1, 1.905.2 million manat as of Jan.1

As of early December, the deposits of legal entities amounted to 2.056.5 million manat compared to 2.135.9 million manat as of Nov.1, 2.855.5 million manat as of Jan.1.

On Jan. 8, the official exchange rate is 0.8031 manat to $1.
