IKCO to boost Samand export to Russia

Giant Iranian carmaker Iran Khodro Company plans to start export of Soren model of Samand equipped with TU5 engine to Russia in the new year.

IKCO expanded its after sales services in Russia last year and plans to start TU5 engine Samand cars to Russia in 2010, according to the Mehr News Agency.

Iran Khodro is currently exporting Samand meeting Euro4 standard as well as Peugeot 206 to Russia.

Iran Khodro is the largest automobile producer in Iran which was founded in 1962. Iran Khodro has produced Samand as Iran''s first national car which is based on the Peugeot 405 platform.

The firm has a long-term relationship with PSA Peugeot Citroën, and assembles a number of Peugeot models under license from the French firm. In 2009, Peugeot 206, Peugeot Pars, Peugeot 405, Peugeot Roa, and Samand sedans were IKCO''s export-bound cars sent mainly to Iraq, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Syria and Afghanistan.
