Corporate securities market to increase by 10 percent

In 2009, corporate securities turnover hit 457.26 million manat, or 10.3 percent more than the figure in 2008, the Azerbaijani State Securities Committee reported.

Number of deals signed in this period is 6607 compared to 7453 in 2008.

Shares turnover hit 342.4 million manat or 6.7 percent less than the figure in 2008. The primary share market increased by 13.2 percent and the secondary share market, placed in the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) increased by 2.3 times and non-exchange operations decreased by 40.6 percent. 

Corporate bond turnover increased by 141 percent to 114.82 million manat. The basis of the growth rate of this figure comprises growth in the secondary market for corporate bonds by 28 times in the BSE and 6.6 times - on the non-exchange market.

In 2009, turnover of government securities market amounted to 2.97 billion manat, which is 68 percent lower than the same period in 2008.

Market size of government bonds rose by 55 percent, reaching 661.09 million manat, and the Azerbaijani Central Bank notes market decreased by 83 percent and was 354.73 million manat.

Operations on REPO and reverse REPO made up 1.95 billion manat.

On Jan. 15, the official exchange rate is 0.8030 manat to $1.
