The growth dynamics of disability stopped in Azerbaijan for the first time over the five years as a result of joint work of the Azerbaijani Labor and Social Protection and Health Ministries, Labor and Social Protection Minister Fizuli Alekperov said today

"The Ministries held a staff meeting and considered both preventive work in assistance to the invalids and their medical rehabilitation. The number of disabled persons in the country increased by only 800 people, and this is a very good indicator, since our predictions hit 15,000 people," Alekperov said

According to Alekperov, this was the result of accelerated rates provided by the country's health services, which quality is very high today

"The Ministries also provide medical assistance to low-income families and each family, which has invalid. The cooperation with the Health Ministry will continue, and this process will be even more organized in 2010," he added

"One of the indicators of the country's development during the crisis is the increase of the average wage to 298 manat in 2009. Some 74,000 new jobs were opened and the unemployment rate dropped to six percent in the country," Alekperov said

"This means economic development in the country did not cease during the crisis and Azerbaijan successfully completed this period," Alekperov underscored

About 64 medical facilities and 54 new schools were opened in the country in 2009.

In 2009 growth dynamics of disability reduced by 6,412 people or 25.9 percent compared to 2008. The full rehabilitation indicator increased by 5.4 percent which is the highest rate over the past five years

Jan. 28, the official exchange rate is 0.8035 manat to $1.
