UK invests over half of foreign deposits in Azerbaijan

The UK retained its leading investments position in January 2010 in Azerbaijan. Its share on the total foreign investments market amounted to 60.5 percent, the State Statistics Committee reported. Its investments hit $132.3 million manat.

Roughly 92.6 percent (220.5 million manat) of the sums invested by foreign countries in January fell to UK, U.S., Japanese, Norweigan, Korean and Turkish investors.

U.S. investments hit 28.77 million manat (with weight of 13.2 percent), Japanese - 15.4 million manat (7.1 percent), Norwegian - 9.85 million manat (4.5 percent), French - 71,000 manat, Turkish - 7.95 million manat (3.6 percent), Korean - 8.17 million manat (3.7 percent), UAE - 390,600 manat (0.2 percent), Saudi Arabian - 827,200 manat (0.4 percent), and Austrian - 260,100 manat (0.1 percent).

The World Bank invested the largest amount worth 12.26 million manat (5.6 percent) among international financial institutions. The Asian Development Bank invested 1.62 million manat (0.8 percent), and the Islamic Development Bank - 671.800 manat (0.3 percent).

As of Feb. 18, the official exchange rate is 0.8034 manat to $1.
