EBRD considers financing of plant to process domestic waste in Azerbaijan

A delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) held preliminary negotiations to finance a construction project in Sumgait, the EBRD's Baku office said.

The EBRD mission is in Baku for talks.

On February 22, head of Sumgait's executive power Vagif Aliyev received a delegation of the EBRD and informed them that the protection of the purity and enhanced protection of the environment have always been a top priority for the city.

According to him, a water treatment plant with a capacity of 200,000 cubic meters per day is under construction in Sumgait.

During this period, the subjects of entrepreneurship, as well as offices, organizations and businesses received over 3,000 containers with emissions. The relevant treaties have been signed.

The experience of Austria, France and Germany is studied and implemented to collect and transport waste in the city. Cars and machinery produced in Germany are used.

Solid waste collected within the city, are placed at the site. About 10 hectares of land have been fully lined and covered with ground. A new landfill is being constructed, Aliyev said.

"In general, the analysis are conducted in the territory," the chief of executive power said.

Guests, in their turn, have expressed interest in the development of this sector in Sumgait.
